Debs Nelson

CIHF DIRECTOR

A Bit About Me

Hi, my name is Deborah Nelson, I grew up in the UK and was lucky to have my grandfather buy us a Welsh Mountain pony when I was about seven years old (his mum came later too); and as young horse and young rider beginners we all enjoyed growing and learning together.

Horses have been a part of my life ever since, continuing to ride whenever and wherever possible in between schools, moves, travels and careers.

In 2008 I came to Canada with a family of my own and it was time to get back in the saddle again.
In my search for a family horse, and introduction to the local horse community, the first horse I got to ride was an Icelandic and I was instantly hooked.

16 years in the Slocan Valley later, I love being a part of the community here with many Icey friends and three gorgeous Icelandic geldings of my own. I have taken part in clinics, ridden in some local demos, been a part time helping/stable hand at the Steen Icelandic Horse Farm and watched my daughters enjoy learning to ride and 'tolt away' on our boys.

I have also been a director and secretary for the local Slocan Valley horse association for the past 10 years and I now look forward to being a part of the CIHF. To continue to learn, enjoy, and help promote this fun and fantastic breed.
